A little snow fell overnight, but a lot is falling now; quantities for the next 24 hours are uncertain with anywhere between 5 and 20cm predicted in the Haute Tarentaise. The wind is very turbulent, whirling the snow around both in town and to an even greater extent, higher up the hill where there are wind speeds of 40 to 70km/h at 2500m. Maximum temperatures will remain very chilly, only getting up to -8°C at 2000m and -15°C at 3000m. Later, the snowfall will lighten and we may even have some periods of clear sky tonight. Keep your thermals on though; tonight and tomorrow are going to be bitingly cold, despite the presence of the sun.

The road is snow covered all the way down to Bourg and snow chains are obligitory if you are driving in town or leaving Val. The only exception is for for drivers of 4x4s with snow tyres who are experienced in the snow.

For walkers, crampons are highly recommended, the sheets of ice are still there but now they are invisible under a thin layer of cold snow, which doesn't gel very well. Really do watch your step today.
