A little snow fell overnight, but a lot is falling now; quantities for the next 24 hours are uncertain with anywhere between 5 and 20cm predicted in the Haute Tarentaise. The wind is very turbulent, whirling the snow around both in town and to an even greater extent, higher up the hill where there are wind speeds of 40 to 70km/h at 2500m. Maximum temperatures will remain very chilly, only getting up to -8°C at 2000m and -15°C at 3000m. Later, the snowfall will lighten and we may even have some periods of clear sky tonight. Keep your thermals on though; tonight and tomorrow are going to be bitingly cold, despite the presence of the sun.
The road is snow covered all the way down to Bourg and snow chains are obligitory if you are driving in town or leaving Val. The only exception is for for drivers of 4x4s with snow tyres who are experienced in the snow.
For walkers, crampons are highly recommended, the sheets of ice are still there but now they are invisible under a thin layer of cold snow, which doesn't gel very well. Really do watch your step today.
Everything is open except Triffolet & Epaule de Charvet. The Snowpark and Boarder Cross may not open due to poor visibility. The La Raye piste is being used this morning for racing but will open up for the public later.
The Tommeuses and Borsat chairlifts are not yet open.
Marmottons remains closed. Everthing else is open. The Lessiere lift will stay closed due to strong wind.
The Vallon bubble is closed and is unlikely to open today but the Col drag lift is running.
The Pisaillas Glacier will stay closed today, except the very bottom. The Pays Desert Drag lift is running and the Cema chair is too.
The Cognon remains closed at the bottom of the sector.
The Avalanche Risk is 2 today.
Everything is open except the Col d'Iseran which is closed because of the wind.
The big and small loops of the Ouilette Lake and both loops of the Manchet valley are open.
