Weather & Ski Report 07/12

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

We had a dusting of snow last night at around 11pm , which has turned the pavements white again. The clouds are hanging low over the village this morning and are going to stay there for a while making visibility up on the hill very poor until this afternoon. At that point, clear patches will begin to appear and we can look forward to some sunny weather with just a few dramatic clouds remaining in the valley floor. Temperatures wise, we are currently reading +0,4 degrés dans la station, -5,2 degrés au sommet de Bellevarde et -7 degrés au Pisaillas. Maximum temperatures  will get up to between 1 and 2°C at 2000m. We had some strong gusts of wind overnight, 53km/h on the Pisaillas Glacier was the maximum speed measured at around 2am. We can continue to expect moderately strong winds, especially in high up exposed areas; it will however settle down in the afternoon.

Although the roads are pretty much all cleared now, save for some side roads, the pavements continue to demand some caution in the mornings where they’ve re-frozen. Take care and use crampons if you have them.

Ski Report

49cm of groomed snow on the snow front, 1m52 at altitude.

Bellevarde

The Santons, Epaule de Charvet, Border Cross, Stade Semanmille, Trifollet and Lanches pistes remain closed. The small kickers in the snowpark are opening up for the first time today. The rest is still under preparation. Everything else is open. If you’re skiing the bottom halves of OK/Orange all the way to the bottom, be aware that the Funival remains closed so you’ll need to cut across to the bottom of the La Daille bubble. Work has started on the Epaule de Charvet but it is not ready to be skied yet and if you do, you may encounter rocks or machinery. Please stay off it and all other pistes marked closed.

The Tommeuses and Borsat chairlifts are open, allowing access to Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret.

Solaise

The Cugnai chairlift opens up for the first time this season. The Marmottons, 3000, Aiglon, Route du Col, L and S also stay closed today.

On the nursery slopes, all slopes are now open.

Fornet

The Pyramid chairlift is scheduled to open today allowing access to Pyramid and Petit Bois. The Signal drag lift may also open up for the first time today. Pont Abatte and Variante Col are also due to open leaving the Table d’Orientation, Arrolay, and Cognon as the closed runs on this sector.

On the Pisaillas Glacier, the Pays Desert drag lift should open up today leaving only the Cascade run closed.

Off-Pistes

The Avalanche risk is 1 today, but don’t let that cause you to lose vigilance. Some rare slabs persist on cold, high altitude, North facing slopes and there is also a risk on sun affected slopes above 1800m. Ensure everyone you ski with has the correct safety gear and avalanche training before heading off piste and if in any doubt, go with a professional or just stick to the marked pistes.

Walking Routes

The Col de l’Iseran, Pont St Charles, Lac de l'Ouillette, Fornet to Laisinant and Manchet routes are open. The rest are closed.

Cross Country

The small loop of the Manchet Valley and the big and small loops of the Lac d’Ouilette are open.
